Inlet baffle replacement
One of the ways the septic tank treats wastewater is by allowing the fluid to separate naturally. Heavier solids sink to the bottom, and lighter fats, oils and grease rise to the surface. The inlet baffle is the pipe or barrier where the effluent passes through to enter the tank. It reduces the turbulance that would otherwise encourage solids to remain suspended in the effluent. Occasionally this gets damaged or falls off. Replacement is always recommended.
Center baffle wall repair
Current septic tanks have two compartments. This dividing wall is called the center baffle wall. It keeps the heavier settled solids and lighter fats and grease on the first side. Often after 20 years the top of the center wall deteriorates and falls off. Reinstating this will encourage cleaner effluent on the secondary side of the tank.
Effluent filter
This is a device that catches suspended solids in the effluent that would otherwise enter the leaching bed. The more solids that enter the bed, the quicker it will fail.
Leachate piping jetting
Usually when a leaching bed fails it is the result of the surrounding gravel and sand becoming impermeable. However, on occasion the pipe itself gets clogged even when there is remaining capacity in the bed. Under these conditions it becomes cost effective to clean the leachate piping with high pressure water jetting.
